Developing a Computer Lab for the Bacolod Boys Home: Project Updates
At the onset of the Covid 2019 virus, the foundation had to cope by creating an onsite computer classroom for the boys, under the supervision of Engr. Albert Taleon and his daughter, Interior Designer, Denise Taleon. A fundraiser was enacted to gather funds for this project.
Ultimately, we were able to raise P290,244.51 for the needs of the construction.
All this was possible due to the generosity of the Liceo-De La Salle Bacolod High School Batch of 1987, Mr. Graham and Mrs. Cristine Tolosa Campbell, Mrs. Rowena Lizares, Mr. Gerry Limcaoco, Mr. Jobo and Mrs. Diana Tanjangco, Mrs. Frannie Manotoc and Mrs. Penny Katigbak.
So many more contributed to the creation of this classroom and wish to remain anonymous.
Constructing the framework
The beginnings of this project lied in establishing a safe and secure foundation for the computer space. Old roofings were repaired and the dilapidated ceilings were replaced in the building provided. Electrical wirings deemed below safety standards were corrected by rewiring throughout the building.
The main door was relocated to ensure it was easily accessible and aligned with the adjacent walkway.
On the same day, the Home received a delivery of computer table frames and window grills painted with anti-rust, ready for installation. This marked the first phase of the development, ending on October 7, 2020.
As of October 12,
table top installations began on 9 tables. Then, later on in the day, roof repairs and repainting had begun.
As of October 15,
the building had completed installations and repairs of its doorway, window grills, roofing, and table tops.
As of October 20,
a reconstruction of the walkway leading to the computer lab began. Upon inspection, the walkway was dilapidated. The poles were corroded and were no longer connected to the cement flooring. Because the safety on the boys and staff are the utmost priority, the decision was made to efficiently repair the damage at a minimum cost.
The dilapidated poles were replaced by 3 inch diameter pipes while maintaining the upper support structure. Thankfully, the old roofing was still usable, only needing to be scraped clean and repainted.
The project is still ongoing. More updates will follow in the days to come.
